Detailed Plot;

Day One was a unique, strong and excellent follow up to the introductory episode of Everything Changes. By far the most explicit and sexual episode within the Doctor Who franchise ever! But it was really good and Chris Chibnall really pulled off making a sex as an alien storyline!

It begins with innocence, as Gwen and Rhys are bowling and having a good time. But Cardiff is subject of alien activity once more it seems, as a meteorite plummets through the sky. Was it simply a solar flare? Or something more exciting, like a ship? Immediately after leaving the restaurant to witness the spectacular scene, Gwen gets a message. Torchwood. Day one in her new job, how would she cope?

She joins up with Jack, Tosh and Owen in the SUV and she's amazed by the mass equipment of tracking devices. I really liked how Owen described the army and police as the 'amateurs' when they arrived at the crash scene of the meteor. Gwen falls a little behind the rest of her Torchwood team as they enter the guarded site, and as she's refused entry, Jack quickly gets her in and claims that she's no 'little girl' as the army member had said, but that's she's got 'all the right curves in all the right places' and I couldn't agree more with Captain Jack! Gwen is a beautiful women with a stunning figure, and she's Welsh! I can tell I'm going to enjoy this Torchwood run. The Cardiff setting, the similarities to Doctor Who, the beautiful Welsh girl and the older target audience. What more could I really ask?

The Torchwood team describe the meteor as space debris, but when Gwen is joking around with Owen, she throws a tool but gets the aim all wrong. It cracks open the meteor and a colourful gas is emitted. We head to Cardiff centre, the alleys of a close by party and a young women is seen alone on the phone. The gas enters this young women and she immediately seems aroused. She sees a young man in the bar, after snogging her way in past the bouncers, and immediately hits on him and they start kissing while entering the toilets. With nobody present, the two begin to have intercourse right there! This wasn't expected and is certainly something new in the Whoniverse. But as they're doing what they are, the man is reaching orgasm point and... disintegrates. The energy caused from it seemed to be fed upon by the young women inhabited with the gas.

Back with the Torchwood team and Owen seems annoyed at Gwen. It wasn't the best start, but Jack and Tosh stand by her and back her. Everybody makes mistakes after all. The team get news of the death, with just ash remaining in the toilets at the scene of what has to be described as a murder. A bit of an awkward moment occurred for Gwen as she ran into Andy, her old partner from the police. She's now technically the boss of him, but she didn't like to admit it. The Torchwood team investigate the CCTV footage of the incident, and they seemed a little shocked. The club owner, who was originally masturbating to the footage, seemed shocked at seeing the incident again. A clever pun was said by Owen as, 'he came and went.' It was here that the Torchwood team had all the evidence they needed. The young women was an alien host body.

By now we discover that young girl is Carys, and that she isn't always controlled by the gas. She was seen in her house suffering from something which has become normal, a hangover. But as the day rolls on, she's hungry for sex but thanks to matching the CCTV footage with the faces of the entire British population, something Gwen was also amazed by and still didn't acknowledge that it was 'us' who had it and not 'you' in her terms. The Torchwood team raided Carys' house, Owen used a device, much to Jack's anger, that caused an immediate cell, she was trapped and the team brought her to the hub where she was contained in a cell similarly to the weevil in the previous episode.

It now seemed that the sex gas was gaining more control over Carys during her time in the cell. The alternations were happening more and more. It was established that the gas was able to communicate through the host body and that it fed upon orgasmic energy. It hadn't arrived by chance through the rift like the weevils, it had come to earth for that soul purpose. With Carys seeming to be unstable and on the brink of collapse, Gwen entered the cell. And almost immediately a truly great scene followed. Carys and Gwen kissed. And then they kissed again. And then Gwen kissed a little more. With Carys ready to strip Gwen for intercourse, she noticed she wasn't a man and was useless to her. How the gas couldn't distinct that Gwen was a women prior is a little confusing though. With the kiss being seen on the cameras in the hub, Owen was loving it and Jack was distracted by its happening. Even Tosh couldn't stop herself from watching! Gwen, unable to fulfil Carys' needs, promised to help. That was a big commitment. She was helping Carys, not the sex gas. A sudden shock stunned Gwen as the weevil was still present in a cell nearby.

While eating Chinese food, the team could hear the crying of Carys, and Gwen was distracted and wanted to do something to help. She was extremely compassionate. Gwen powerfully displayed her emotions telling Jack and the team they'd forgot what it meant to be human. Jack told Gwen to remind him. I joined in Jack's admiration of Gwen, she was going to accept the challenge.

After it was discovered that Carys was unintentionally filling the air of the cell with sex pheromones, the absence of Owen was worrying. He couldn't resist the temptation of a possible interaction with Carys, but he was left, put beautifully by Gwen, 'feeling a bit of a cock.' As Carys roams around the Torchwood hub, she's in a minor fight with Jack, nothing of real violence. But she grabs anything she can, luckily for her it was the one thing Jack valued the most. The severed hand of the Doctor. He loved its worth and because it was only valuable to him he was anxious to have it returned. He let her escape, and then she smashed the jar. The hand was free and Carys, hungry for sex, was out roaming Cardiff. Tosh and Gwen were out on the bay searching for her, but there was no sign.

Jack had now retrieved the Doctor's hand, although it wasn't known to the viewer (at time of broadcast) nor the Torchwood team why it was so significant. Owen had been conducting tests on a rat, he made the rat just like Carys was, but sped up the process. What happens to the rat will happen to Carys. The rat exploded. So Carys had little time and the sex gas was gaining more control.

With no idea where she was, the Torchwood team were thinking where she could be. As Carys was roaming Cardiff, it was revealed and brought to perspective how much our community has a reference to sex. Everywhere you look you see a half naked women modelling lingerie (not that I'm complaining) and it is very much a massive impact on society. This just added to Carys' need for sex. Tosh had a hunch of where she would be, and she was right. She returned to her ex, Eddie, who frankly seemed a total bastard to put it nicely.

Another discovery was then made about Carys. Her employment. She worked at Conway Clinic, a fertility centre. There would be orgasmic energy everywhere! She could feed upon it all and cause chaos. She had fed upon many victims in the centre before the team arrived there. But time was running out before her imminent explosion.

Carys stated how she needed one more victim to survive. Her body was being drained, she wouldn't cope much longer. Jack took on a role, he gave Carys an extremely passionate kiss and it had a big effect on her- sparks of some energy she desperately desired. Gwen showed her wonderful courageous side now, she told the gas to leave Carys, and instead enter her- claiming she was stronger than Carys. She was going to attempt to right the wrong she had caused by cracking the meteor.

As the bright, colourful gas exits Carys and heads for Gwen, Jack stops it in its tracks. He pulls out the cell causing device and traps the already weak sex gas. It was dying, it needed energy and was useless without a host body. The sex gas was destroyed as it turned to dust. Gwen was extremely thankful and quite passionately kissed Jack. Jack loved the kiss going by his reaction, why wouldn't he?

Back in the hub, Gwen was working overtime. Packing away her research but Jack told her to go home. He loved how she was normal and had a life, something he'd no chance of anymore. He told her to go home, kiss her boyfriend and eat lasagne. She questioned Jack, who was he? She was curious. Jack gave nothing away, Gwen went home.

My analysis;

Overall, this was brilliant. A very good follow up, not quite topping Everything Changes but certainly great nonetheless! A sexual orgasmic desiring gas was a unique enemy, but it worked well! I think Gwen has been the shining light of Torchwood so far but it's also been magnificent to see Captain Jack take on a lead role in the early stages of this series. I look very much forward to what the next episodes have to bring!

Rating; 9/10- possibly a little too explicit but still great!
