The Eighth Doctor is bloody brilliant. Paul McGann really does so much in just an hour as the Doctor on TV. Personally, The Movie is the only Eighth Doctor story I've experienced but I've got many audios upcoming which I'm extremely looking forward to!
The Eighth Doctor arrives midway through his only TV story and is clueless as to who he is. The Movie is phenomenal and is right up there with my all time favourite Who stories. The Master is given a rebirth in the form of firstly a gooey snake like creature, surviving beyond death after execution by the Daleks. Eric Roberts really brings something new to the Doctor and definitely suits the role with Paul McGann as the Doctor.
Grace Holloway is a great companion throughout the story, firstly killing the Seventh Doctor then kissing the Eighth! She's really good all in all! It's just an enormous shame that Doctor Who didn't return regularly to our screens with Paul McGann as the Doctor and Grace as companion, that TARDIS set was outstanding and definitely needed to be used more.
The Movie is quite clearly the bridge filling the gap between Classic Doctor Who and the current series. For me, it's a tremendous shame that Paul McGann wasn't asked to return to his role in 2005 as I think he had the potential to be a fantastic Doctor and now with my upcoming audios, I really cannot wait to hear McGann in action!
I now update the blog entry one day on from publication and I'm still in absolute shock of how brilliant The Night of the Doctor, the 50th anniversary prequel, was! Paul McGann is BACK! 17 years on the wonderful Eighth Doctor returned and answered a lot of questions regarding the anniversary special itself, but I just loved it. For the 7 minutes or so playing the role once more, he was instantly and easily the Doctor. Sensational! The reference to his audio companions was marvellous to, we even see the hint of his regeneration! He wanted no part in the Time War, but it was incredibly surprisingly amazing! McGann RETURNED!
